1999 Merc Opti air injector issue

Can an air injector work intermittently. One day its fine ... the next I get an engine alarm.

On one occasion I taped the injector connector and the alarm went out.

Also ... when the engine alarm light goes on there are no beeps. It does beep as normal when the key is turned on.

Yes, a Direct Injector CAN have intermittent failures. Remove the plug, and inspect the pins for anything "loose, dirty, or damaged".

If you suspect the harness end of the connector as the issue, we have "repair ends" available to replace the connector.

    Thanks for the reply,

The connector and the harness pins/socket look ok. I understand it could be one of the actual wires too somwhere in between. My question is really whether the actual air injector itself could work intermittantly.

Reasoning is as follows; would replacing the expensive injector (merc part 850065A5) fix this or should I dig out all the wiring between the harness and connector and check it more thoroughly. If the wiring I will likely take it to my dealer cause I could prolly take it apart ... not so sure I could put it back together ...lol.

Wondering now whether these two wires can be tested with a digital VOM between the harness and the connector so as to find out if these wires are shorted to ground or something. Digging out all those wires looks like a nightmare even for someone like me who has done a lot of wiring in my day.

Whatever happens I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Yes, it is possible to have an "intermittent" DI failure.

I would recommend testing the DI with an "ohm" meter. Also test from each of the pins to the metal portion of the DI.

If the problem IS in the harness, odds are better than 75% that the problem is "within the last three inches at the direct injector plug".

If it were me.... I'd probably be replacing the plug, and the DI.
