A guy I know here in the building asked me about this tin boat he's considering buying. By chance, does anyone know anything about it or have any comments?

seams to be a good little boat, might want one alittle bigger imho
Spectums were built for a few short years and a dealer here in Topeka used to carry them (lakeside marine). Not sure about the Force motor. That engine would definately be the downer on that boat. Might be difficult to find parts and anyone who would want to work on it.
I fished out of a Spectrum once, got me though one of the roughest tourneys Ive ever been in; 40+mph wind and monster waves that sunk 1 boat on Lake Lewisville in Texas; cant help ya much but they do float![]()

Finding some one to work on it its a bitch ( I know) mine is a 97 model adn have a hell of a time finding people to work on it.
Cheaper to keep a kid in tourney fishing than paying attorneys to keep them out of jail !!
I used to fish with a guy that owned a Spectrum.....not the Best boat out there but it still a decent boat. I agree with Matt.....the Force engine is tough to find people to work on them....plus a lot parts are obsolete or tough to get unless you know for fact if it was an OMC part or not......Force didnt care who made it as long as it was cost effective.......that seem to be the hard part for that. Aside from that it seems that some of the forces' that made it through that Era w/o blowing up actually are pretty good motors from what I know.
As far as the asking price......he seems a little steep but maybe just cuase he's trying to get his $$ out of the extra stuff on it, like 6 life jackets, anchors, Humminbirds and such.........the mk40 was a good T/M as well......being we dont know what type of HB units are on it kinda hard ot justify $2500 at the moment.....most of those older tins would usually sell for about $1500 or so depending on condition.
I have an 85hp force from '89 on my little runabout. That thing is dang near bullet proof. I had to replace the starter a couple years ago, but that's the only problem my family has ever had with it.
Thanks for the opinions - I've passed them along to the guy who is probably gonna pass on this used boat.
