225 ProXS died and wont restart

I backed my boat off the trailer and started to idle to the dock when the motor died like I turned the key off. It started right back up and idled for 5 seconds then died again. Now it will turn over fine but it won't fire. I am pretty sure it is not the kill switch, and I have checked the fuses that I know of on the motor and they appear to be good. The smartcraft is not showing any alarms. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be or what else I can check, please let me know. I am taking it to the dealer Monday, but I want to check whatever I can to make sure it is not something stupid I can fix myself. Thanks.

Pretty well guaranteed to be a LACK OF spark or fuel....

There are three relays on the starboard side of the engine. The rear one is the MAIN POWER RELAY (MPR), and the two in front of it are the trim relays.

Turn the key on, and listen to see if you hear the fuel pumps run for about 2 seconds. If not.... swap the rear relay with the one forward of it... and try again.

If it was a bad relay, you will need to replace it (swapping it would kill either your "up" or "down" trim function).

There are also TWO fuse holders on the starboard side- one "above" the PCM/ECM, and one down "below" the ECM/PCM. Ensure that all fuses are in "good" condition.

IF YOU FIND A BLOWN FUSE- I DO NOT RECOMMEND REPLACING IT. GET IT IN IMMEDIATELY FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE "CAUSE" OF THE BLOWN FUSE.

I have checked both of the fuse holders and all of the fuses are good. The fuel pump does run for a few seconds when you first turn the key on. I have noticed that after I crank the motor over for a while I start to smell gasoline, so I think it is getting fuel. I don't think it is a bad kill switch because I still get the initial beep when I turn the key on. Any other ideas?

On my boat the kill switch does not prevent you from trying to start your engine. It may be your kill switch!!

I can't say for sure it is not the kill switch. What I was saying is that normally when you start the engine, there is a beep as soon as you turn the key on. In the past when I have accidentally pulled the kill switch I did not get that beep unless I re-engaged the kill switch. Currenly that is still the condition. It beeps when the switch is on and does not beep when the switch is off. If anyone knows a more scientific way to test the kill switch I will give it a try.

Make sure you compressor pulley hasn't sheared off. Mine would turn over and never crank, and soon started smelling like fuel. Opened the hood and popped the back plastic cowling off and the pulley and belt fell off. It's doubtful that yours did the same, but you can look.

I just checked the belt and compressor and everything seems ok there. The belt was on, the pulley was on, and I turned the compressor by hand and it is not locked up. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Check for spark at the spark plugs!

If you have no spark- you'll want to get it in to the dealer. Could be a coil, driver, kill switch circuit issue, or a failed CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor).

I took my ProXS to the dealer today. The diagnosis is a bad coil and a dead computer. Apparently when the coil failed it caused a short and overloaded the computer and fried it too.
