    new boat blues

Took the boat to Eldo today to burn some gas with my mom. Wouldn't start, went over to Shady Creek and Justin hooked me up with some spark plugs. They were fouled from double oiling . Started right up in the parking lot. Went and put in at the ramp and the starter finally gave up.

Not all is lost though, we didn't get rained on!!

Big thanks to Justin! I wouldn't have even checked the plugs.

That sucks, did you get a new started for it? Make sure you use some type of fuel additive EVERY time you get gas. If everyone added sea foam, quickcleen or marine stabil, there would be alot less boat problems. (not saying this is your prob here) Good luck.

Nah I think I'll get this one rebuilt. I plan on using Stabil blue for every tank.

Holy crap I lucked out. We had an old merc starter from our last boat laying around. Contact side cap just happened to match up. So we cleaned it up and replaced the cap and ZING!!

Fixed the main power last night then my depth flasher quit working. Fixed the depth flasher and now my aerators are blowing fuses. Headed to the lake anyway and toasted a wheel bearing.

At least my luck cant get any worse! Good thing I lowered my insurance deductible today, the Champs sittin on the side of the road somewhere

All this Jay comes down to what sucks about having an older boat. I had an old basstracker I poured money into all the time then bought a new Champion and got rid of it before it started costing. I bought the boat I have now new in 01 and it is starting to cost me but I just don't want to spend the money on a new one so I will keep pouring money into it... just like your doing. Good luck and just remember the more you have to do the more you learn and in the long run the knowledge will be a ton of value to you.

    Re: new boat blues (hooks2bset)

OH yeah and truth be told, I don't have alot of money in to it. It's just frustrating seeing the list of repairs grow and grow.

The wheel bearing experience (as frustrating as it has been), has been good. I now know what parts and tools I need to get the job done so I know what to have set aside when I go on longer trips. Thank the lord this happened within 15~ miles of home.

So , just venting the frustrations .

Just got home with the tow truck. Spindle is cross threaded and looks like a chunk is missing out of it. Guess I'm taking the axle off tomorrow. At least the boat is safe at home...
