    typical crap

OK..............I called about a year ago to inquire about Direct TV........at the time I did not think it would have been any less than cable so I dropped my Higher end cable service to save a bit of money.

My cable bill has gone up Twice since that time.......and with the taxes and other crap I pay its around $64 now Now I have tried to reconsider Sat TV and see what was out there so I got a flyer in mail and I read the FINE print.

After reviewing my Choices & pricing........I have come to one conclusion.......IT DONT MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE......its all gonna cost you the same.

OK...Direct TV......family plan $29.99 per month......if you want any of the HD's you have to pay $9.99 per month for access fees and additional monthly fee for the HD receiver instead of the $4.99 retal fee for the standard Box.........................Go up from there and you can add another 100 Channels for $5......now its $34.99 and you still have to pay the added $9.99 for HD access and the additioanl for the Receiver......BUT......that is only good fot ONE YEAR......after that it goes to $52.99 per month after the ONE YEAR promotion is over............to top it all off you have to Sign a 2-YEAR contract

oh and the HD receiver is $199 and is only a ONE TIME upgrade but additional rental fees apply

ok.......so....Family plan$29.99+$9.99+$4.99+$5 upgrade receiver=$49.97 (+taxes).........$1199.28 for 2 years of service for only 45 channels and a few in HD
    or
$34.99+$9.99+$4.99+$5=$54.97 (+taxes) plus...........after my 1st year is up it goes to the $52.99 rate + the other stuff for the remainder of my 2yr contract.............so now..............totaling $1535.28 for 2 yrs for 150 channels and some in HD..............almost 30 of those channels are XM radio channels anyway

now all I need to do with my cable company is get a Converter to access the remainder of there channels....INCLUDING any HD channels........cost.......$10 per month with NO addisional Contract......total additiona cost for 2 years.....$240 on top of my bill now.....$1776 all together for the next 2 years with anything in HD for no additional charge and access to almost 200 channels (which I wont need anyway

OH....and when Direct TV says they offer you Local channels.....they dont offer 2 of mine so that is Bogus I can still pick them up through my Quam in HD but that is another story.

Looks like they got ya by the balls not matter what you do.................unless you just say.....F-it.........and not have any TV in the 1st place............that might not be such a BAD idea after all

    Ryan

All major companies have whole department dedicated to pricing, they want to make sure that their pricing is inline with their competition, and make the most of every dollar..

unless you are like Randy . You are going to pay about the same for any television service you get.

My DTV bill is close to a hundred bucks a month and I get the whole HD package, HBO and the Sports premiums and also have 7 receivers operational. Considering the package, it's not any worse than anyone else, and their HD package is incredible. Blows the rest away. I get all the locals in HD except NBC. Hopefully the legal issues will be resolved soon and we'll have that, too.

As in, you have 7 TV's in your house that get all the channels? Sweet

That'd seem like a damn good deal then, I thought it was usually $5-$10/month per each extra receiver.

that could be.............now if I had ANOTHER $100 per month to spend......that might be an option.

otherwise......it dont look like you can actually "Save" any money no matter WHAT progaming you go with anymore I guess.

I can get Basic-Limited here and will only run me $20 per month........but lucky to have 20 channels

Yeah, it's 5/month for each add'l receiver and that's included in the bill. They're not all in the house. One HD receiver is out in the garage.

You could go on the super cheap and put a great big UHF antenna on your roof and get all the local channels in stunning high def for nothing. Add a very cheap cable package to pick up ESPN, etc.. and there you have it.

We only have 4. When they came to the new house to hook us back up they didn't bring us another reciever so we opted not get one in our bedroom. Bad decision. I forgot how much I like watching Letterman while falling asleep.

Quite the contrary, VHF, where all the analog signals are currently carried is gone in 2009. UHF is is where there is enough bandwidth to carry HD broadcasts. A high def antenna is just a UHF antenna and don't let anyone tell you any different.

Channels 2-13 will be obsolete in '09. All of the digital broadcasts that I can receive are in the 14-83 channel or UHF bandwidth range. With the abandoment of VHF, it will supposedly free up a lot of space for radio type communications.

That's what I'm saying. If you don't wanna pay, put up an antenna and get your local channels for free in high def, or does no one understand that there is still free TV available??
