How often to do you change your spark plugs?

I have a 96 175efi with engine mods getting about 226 hp. Took the boat out for the first time this season and it was smoking more than it usually does and I really didnt see the speed I had last year. Could this be plugs or something else?
I have NGK's (BUZ8H) Is this the correct plug i should be running?

Try a NGK BR 8HS gapped at .040" you like the plug and love the price..

Change 1 time a season.

So these are a lot cheaper than the ones i usually run. Whats the difference? I believe the ones i had were gapless? Does that make a difference? Is there something to run through the fuel system to clean it out?

Run the plug I suggest and I like sea foam fuel additives
