    Coach of the Year

Congrats to Bob Huggins, Big 12 coach of the year. Also to Cartier Martin, first team all Big 12, off the bench!!!

And to top it off, our program still isn't on probation and no one has been arrested recently, unlike many of the predictions when Huggins was hired.

Why would you be more surprised they are staying out of trouble than you would the players at any other college??

Something about throwing a punch or something during a game . Pretty sure he was one of Bob's recruits. The upperclassman were not recruited by Thuggins so I can see why he has stayed out of trouble so far. Its not Thuggins himself that causes the trouble. It's the type of players he recruits. His tenure in Cinncinatti is evidence. He may change, who knows? I hope for all the Mildcat fans that he does good by them.

Just based on what I have been told about Huggins at his previous school. I hear that his players seem to get into trouble alot.

I believe that there is no other coach in the nation that can make such a dramatic turn around so quickly (not saying were there yet but hopfully within the next year or 2), I love Huggieville

Look at Thad Matta and Ohio State. Yes they had good teams befor him, but had a coach much like Thuggins (I care not to mention their names, Okay I will but just this once Jim O'Brian, and Ranydy Ayers) that won alot of games, but recruited streetballing thugs. Matta is a helluva coach. When he was a Xavier he always put a competive team on the floor. Matta's first year at Ohio State he got them into the Tounament as a #3 seed. They didnt fare well, but he got them to the T as a #3 seed in his first year after overcoming probation due to recruiting improprieties by the last 2 seedy coaches that Ohio State had! Matta has in his first 2 years Won 2 BIG 10 titles, and has his team a #1 seed in the Tournament. Thuggins accomplishments in his first year don't even come close to Matta's accomplishment in his first!!!! Like I said in almost all my replies in threads regarding KSU basketball, I hope Thuggins does well and gets the Cats to the Dance! I hate seeing the Big East and ACC year in and year out the best conferences. It's Time for The Big 12 and Big 10 to take over that distinction!

Re: Coach of the Year (TimS)

Are you sure about this?? I believe Billie Gilispie from AtM was the Big 12 Coach of the year and Martin was the the inagural winner of the 6th man award. Still a good year for KSU....KU did have 6 players recieve Big 12 honors.

"Texas A&M's Billy Gillespie, who beat KU 69-66 in Allen Fieldhouse on Feb. 3, was named the league's Coach of the Year."

" Kansas State senior Cartier Martin earned the league’s inaugural Sixth Man Award. Texas A&M’s Billy Gillispie was named Coach of the Year."

Re: Coach of the Year (Jmontgomery)

My apologies, it was just the KC Star's list. I couldn't argue against Gillespie winning it, they had a heck of a year. Still makes me wonder what might've been if Walker didn't get hurt and we could've hung on to beat them down there for our Big 12 opener...

Was T Tech as bad as we have been the last few years? We have been very low in the Big XII standing for a while now, 4th this year and I hopfully it will just get higher in the next year or 2.

His high school played a game here a week ago but I missed it because of the boat show. Can't wait to see what he can in person
