    resistor vs non-resistor plugs

I have a 1977 Evinrude engine that seems to crank, Idle, warm up, and low speed operate better on non-resistor plugs, L77JC4 than resistor plugs QL77JC4. High speed seems to be the same. It fires quicker when cold, idles about a 100 rpm faster and smoother on the non-resistor plug. Is this common?

I think the QL plugs were disignated for the VRO engines, as not to interfere with 'em....
