My son is fishing a KBFN jr tournament this weekend on Laurel River Lake. I havent been on this lake in 20 years. Can anyone tell me what the fish are doing or a good place to start. Thanks

Most of the largemouth are off the beds or are coming off. Should be plenty left guarding fry. Topwaters and floating worms in the back 3/4 of the wooded pockets should be good for largemouth. The largemouth bite in the river has been good as well around any cover if the water still has some color.
Smallmouth are pretty much done bedding as they usually do on flats with boulders. Check main lake points and flats with boulders on them. Swimbaits have been working well for them. Basstrix 5" with a 3/8 to 1/2 oz. jig head.
Drew, thanks for the info. Trevor ended up winning the KBFN youth division (11-14). Laurel was on fire with a lot of fish up cruising. Probally caught 20-25 arond the 14 inch mark. Broke 3 good ones off. Lite line in the trees is tuff. Next stop is Barren in July. Thanks Dean Windgassen![]()
Congrats to Trevor!
And kudos to Drew for the info. You da man
