    motor lifting up while towing

Confused,, towed from oklahoma to the east coast of florida this past week with my 22' bay champ, evinrude 175 ocean pro, in route, while fueling I noticed my motor had risen up out of transon saver, and had lost it. Put motor up in the travel lock position, next stop the motor was all the way up in the tilt as far as it would go, perko batteries switches were off so no power. Had to turn on power lower motor in to travel locks again , and release the manual release screw until motor would not trim to keep it from raising while traveling.sorry for the long post.

If your motor starts with the perko off, the tilt is still getting voltage. Disconnect the pan mounted switch and see if it goes up again, if it does, disconnect the switch on the handle and see if it does it again. Which ever one makes the problem go away is the culprit. Any connection between the red and blue wires will cause the engine to lift up. A "WET" switch will also cause the engine to go up. If the switches are worn, leaking, or brittle, driving thru a good rain will cause the tilt to activate.

May also want to check the bow trim switch too.

if the perko has both batteries off, how could any of the switches {three } get power

Re: motor lifting up while towing (okiebasser2)

Had a guy here with similar issue on his bass boat, in the end I found it to be his TM control cable. Although it had clearance it was not enough, while driving it would bounce just enough to hit the trim switch occasionally and trim motor up.

Tech guys can confirm but the trim circuit gets it power via the engine battery cables so unless they too go throuugh the Perko then the trim system would be live all the time.
