How to change the trim/tilt fluid......

I have a 2002 Evinrude 200hp. The trim/tilt fluid looks nasty so I want to change it. Can anyone tell me how to change it and fill it back up???

    Thanks, Mike

If the condition of your fluid is that bad. You need to find the source of the intrusion. Best be is to inspect all the tilt/trim rams. Feel for dents, gouges, pitting on them. The rams have wipers/seals on the tilt/trim cylinders. If the seals/wipers have gone bad they should be replaced. Same with the tilt cylinder. You need a spanner wrench to fit the cap so that is a specialized tool. Best bet would be to take it to a shop and have them check it.

I do have some signs of etching or scraping on my tilt rod but when i run my fingers over it i dont feel any grooves....When i am raising the motor i hear like a air noise (hisssing sound) and the motor goes up real slow.

That could be my whole problem with the motor bouncing up and down, when I am lowering the motor from tilt position down to the trim rods it will bounce until it sits on the trim rods or if i lift up on the skag as i am lowering the motor it wont bounce.

    Thanks for the info.

You may also want to try tighting up the large nut on the starboard side of the tilt tube where the steering cables go into.

I tighten that nut up already and it still does it. I greased up the shaft where the grease fittings are......That problem with the motor bouncing is driving me crazy because I do have mechanics background and I can't figure it outme unless I start taking the tilt/ trim apart or pulling the motor of to see if that tilt shaft is pitted ir what .......I don't want to just start replacing parts to figure out what is wrong with it.
