Shaky Head & Carolina Rigging Questions

Looking to upgrade on my shaky head rod and carolina rod. Do you all have any suggestions on what works for you, including type of line (clear/stained water)? It's very hard to make a good decision and this forum has some really knowledgable fisherman. Thanks for your help.

Carolina Rig, i use a 7'6" Kistler LTA Rod. I use P Line 100% Fluorocarbon on the whole spool EXCEPT for when i tie my leader. Fluorocarbon sinks, with a carolina rig you do now want the bait to sink, i tip my leader with 15# P Line Monofilament. i use this year around clear or stained water. As for the shaky head, i dont have a special rod for the occasion, but i throw it with one of two rods depending on where im fishing. If im fishing in some cover and need some ass behind the set, i throw a G-Loomis GL3 rod with 12# test. if im light lining it i throw my Shaky Head on a very basic Shimano Clarius (sp?) 6'6" Spinning Rod

I use an all star 7' c-rig rod. its a good rod, but a little bulky and heavy for draggin all day.

my shakey head rod is a Quantum KVD 6'4" ML jerkbait rod (KVDC644ML) paired up with a Revo SX with 12lb Pline cxx premium florocarbon.

    Carolina Rig:

7 1/2 ft All Star Flipping Stick
    50 lb Power Pro mainline
    12 lb P-line leader

casts a mile and sets hook from distance

    good for upperbody workout

I use basically the same rig with spider wire instead of Power pro, you're right it'll sling a 3/4 ounce C'rig a country mile and give good hook ups but by the end of the day you know you've been fishing.

I've tried several rods for shakey heads, right now using a 6'6" basic all star medium action casting rod with 10 pound suffix seige on a curado. I could not get good hook sets on my long spinning rod, it was just to limber. The one thing I am finding on the shakey head hook up's is the JIG HEAD! Make sure you get a long hook, I have tried several brands, the longer the hook, the better the hookups tend to be.

i believe you'll find most people here using a similar setup.
    i use a:
    7'1 GLX C-rig/jig (H action) rod with a shimano chronarch paired w/ 20lb p-line 100% flouro. 17lb excel leader.

or a 7'2 shimano cumara MH extra fast paired with a chronarch

and for my shakey head i use a 6'8 shimano cumara with a shimano stradic and 8lb p-line `100% flouro.

I use a 7'3" GLoomis that is designed for Carolina Rigging. The rod is very sensitive and the length I believe helps me take up a lot of line quickly when setting the hook. I use a Shimano Currado, current version, with 20 pound P-line FlouroClear for my main line and usually use 12 to 15 pound test mono for my leader. 12 pound line in clear water and 15 pound in water with some color. (The line is a co-polymer that is only covered with fluorocarbon). I usually throw 1 oz weight but sometimes drop down to a 3/4 especially if I am fishing relatively shallow.

I use a Shimano Crucial Spinning rod for my shaky head rod. I believe it to be 6'10 " and a medium action. It has a very fast tip that allows me to cast well, but has a LOT of back bone so it is a rather stiff spinning rod. I also use a Shimano Spinning reel, 15 pound Spider-wire and recently went to using a 10 pound fluorocarbon leader about 12" long.
