    Hunting accident

I know this guy. Jeff was an aircraft mechanic at UPS.
He leaves a 16 year old son and his wife. Please say a prayer for them.
What I'm hearing at work is Jeff had just got out of his tree stand and his partner heard a noise and shot. Jeff didn't immediately die, his partner had to run quite a ways to get a cell phone signal, he finally reached service. When the ambulance arrived, Jeff had already died.

    Very sad.

    How very sad...

Sound shot. If that is accurate then his friend should be on trial for 2nd degree murder.

John, I heard it is being investigated now. The shooter was in the hospital, but I'm not sure if he's still there.

    That's terrible.

How does that happen though? How can you shoot and not see what you are shooting at?

I've seen it too often. I quit gun hunting several years ago except on my own property. Too damned many idiots.

Sad We lost a local man Wed., hunting alone. One of my wife's coworkers was just leaving a customer's home when the lady mentioned her husband sure had been hunting a long time and she was worried
They found him in the woods not too far from the house already dead, ruled accidental gunshot.......very sad.........

I was thinking the same thing Ed. Shouldn't you "SEE" the deer before you pull the trigger? (I don't hunt)

I am certainly one person that believes in an American's right to own and possess firearms. These kind of stories is just what the folks that want to take our weapons thrive on. I am certainly of the opinion that anyone that wants to buy a hunting license needs to have completed a gun safety/hunting safety course reguadless of age. Hell, they did not turn me loose in the military with a weapon without proper training.

    Re: Hunting accident (EdDavisKY)

You know, plain and simple there ought to be a charge that is ALWAYS incurred when one hunter shoots another. Too many hunters just shoot in the dark! They hear a noise and shoot. This is what happens and then it's called an "accident". It's no accident, it's a dumb ass decision that is fatal and should be punished. I think if a charge was to fear that might make some dumb asses think before they pull the trigger and use a little common sense. If you don't see it, DON'T SHOOT!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE! This guy learned this the hard and stupid way.

I'm not saying take everyones weapon, just make and enforce hunting laws that catch idiots from being able to hunt. He can have his gun but if he's not smart enough to use it then he should be denied that usage privileged. Go to the target range and shoot your own foot off. Again it's just a lack of wildlife regulations being enforced in the courses. Some guys are just dumb until they know and some people are just stupid. Who knows what category this guy fits in. It's easy to say one but is it the other???

Truly a sad story. for his family.

Thanks for the info Steve. I heard the shooter was in pretty bad shape. He's got to live with this the rest of his life.

    Re: Hunting accident (Dave Stewart)

I agree Dave, Ky only requires people born after January 1 1975 to take the course and now they have added an exemption i the name of getting more people into hunting. Now the count is up to 5 deaths from gun accidents this season as far as I can tell. Thanks for the exemption KDFWR.
Just for fun I went to Wal-Mart the night (10:00pm) before opening day. There were no less than 5 people there buying deer rifles for the hunt the next day. No practice, sighting in or familiarization at all. Buy it and start flinging bullets down range. These folks should not be allowed to do that. It makes us all look like a bunch of idiots when these people do this.
I agree, all hunters should be required to have a hunter education card to purchase a hunting license.
Sorry for the rant, but this is one that is very important to me.

    Be careful folks

at what part in that picture does it look like a deer is walking through the woods. how bad do hallucinations actually get? or even is this an hallucination? ive hunted for many years and can honestly say that ive never ever shot at something that i didnt have a clear view of it. its never crossed my mind to just "fling" a bullet. maybe its my hunting morals, or maybe its common sense. but even when i don't have a shot, i do not instantly think "don't shoot", instincts take over and i just watch......iono, i just wonder about some people or somethings...anyhow...i'm praying for the family....such a sad story.
