Hi Guys, I need some straightening out before I attempt replacing the impeller on my 1999 Johnson 225 HO (HPLEEN). I have read through the terrific instructions in the JohnRude Tips section but am a little confused with the shift rod pieces. I will admit right off the start that I'm not quite sure how the shift rod works in relation to moving the driveshaft through the Forward/Neautral/ Reverse positions which I'm sure is contributing to why it doesn't make sense to me.

Here goes

I understand that you place the motor into Reverse via the Shifter in order to remove the shifter pin.

I understand all the other steps up until step 17 / 18 .. I'm confused why I am moving the boat shift handle to the Forward position and then prior to replacing the lower unit pushing down on the shift rod to move the gear case into Reverse, when in fact the boat shifter is in the Forward position.

One other question - it talks about turning the prop before shifting it into Reverse - which direction am I turning the prop - clockwise or counter clockwise.

Thanks in Advance

Bruce

17. Move the boat shift handle to Forward gear.
18. Push down on the gear case shift rod and turn the propeller to shift the gear case into reverse gear.
