    Indiana Bass Federation News?

One of the guys in our club went to the last meeting in Indy and was told that the Indiana Bass Federation was under investigation for sexual harassment. It turns out that an IBF affiliated club turned a woman down for membership.

Those are all of the details that were given, but it is possible that the club had full membership. Pretty dumb move regardless.

Leads me to another question: Do any of you have female members? I know we have had them in the past and most clubs do.

There was no sexual harassement involved. The club in question, denied her access to the club on the basis that they have a rule about no women, because of possible hardships that could arise at home between some members and wives, that had to draw fishing with a women. That is just sexual discrimination. My wife, does not really like me fishing with a woman, but I have drawn a female partner before and she just had to deal with it. It does suck to not be able to pee of the front deck when you have to get rid of the mornings coffee, and I could see that some men would be a pig and hit on a woman all day, but that is thier problem, not the womans and unfortunately, it is the world we live in. If the guy hits on the woman, then it is sexual harrasement. If clubs keep doing this, it will lead to more women trying to join, just to prove a point. It is funny that there can be women only clubs that do not accept men without a problem, but if men do it then it is illegal. I am not for discrimination, but why would you want to be in a club that does not really want you. ...Just My opinion...

Well said. Second hand info is the worst.

I don't want to start a war between the sexes, but I think most women would agree with that assessment.

I heard it discussed at the State Meeting @ the Indy Boat show Feb 19th. Zone 1 had a zone meeting on March 5th, so they may have discussed it there too.

The issue is a recent one that was brought to the attn. of the IBF by Don Cochran @ BASS. The woman that made the allegation had emailed the BASS Federation contacts and the email had climbed the ranks thru BASS until it got to Don. He then contacted the IBF directors. The Directors told us at the state meetiong that this practice is not acceptable and would not be tollerated. Any person may apply for club membership as long as they meet the age requirement, regardless of sex, race, creed, etc...Any club found to be discriminating, will loose all BASS and IBF affiliation.
