Re: Kentucky Bass Federation (TR 196 KY)

This is the Region 2 qualifier but I put it on my schedule, April 17th. I'm in region 3 and I don't quit understand the qualifying but none-the-less, so far I plan to be there. I heard Yatesville is a great lake..../doug

Doug, to qualify for the state championship, you must be be within the top anglers with all qualifiers combined points. If you can weigh fish in at every qualifing tournament you will more than likely be fishing the state tournament to have a chance at the state team. So, if you catch one keeper at least in all qualifiers (make sure you weigh them in with your partner never leaving your side, except for going to get the truck for pickup) you have a chance to fish for the state team. If you make the state team, many rewards are on the way.

I sent a message into Donnie Keeton on this. It looks like last year the top 20 from each tourney, qualified, unless they were already qualified. The rules from last year confirmed this but maybe it's different this year. I'll post Donnie's response when I hear back from him.../doug

Your correct with the top 20, I hope that you can qualify in the top 20 at one of them. Would be the easiest way in I guess. Just hard to get in the top 20 as most tournaments have around 150 boats or 300 fishermen/women. Just have to beat out 280 others on one lake. I was mainly talking about the Wildcard, which the next 20 anglers with the total weights of all qualifiers will fish the state championship (this is where weighing in one fish at each tournament makes a huge difference). So, top 20 anglers at each event (if you have already qualified in the top 20, next angler at 21st place gets an automatic and so on each tournament thereafter) and top 20 wildcard (combined points of quaifiers) gets a chance to fish the state championship. Sorry, I did not make that clear earlier.

Confirmed by Donnie, top 20. I did note the number of anglers in each tourny last year. Seems with so many boats on the water, first man to the hole has the best chance. Maybe I should have gotten a bigger motor .

Thanks for the input on the wildcards. I was not aware of that.../doug

You will be plenty fast enough with your boat. Mid 70's is fast enough anywhere. Just make sure your dealer puts a 26 pitch trophy on your rig and if you get a free spare, go with the 27 pitch trophy or tempest. Set your jackplate at 2 1/2" below the pad and you can go up as you get used to the rig to satisfy your needs.
