Is there any negative to lifting a Ram 1500 4-6 inches if I will be pulling the boat a lot?

Just be sure you have a drop hitch low enough that the boat trailer is level. I have a lifted up Chevy, 6'' with 35s, and was using a small drop hitch, trailer wasnt level and I had a hard time loading the boat, specially on steep ramps. Found a hitch and put a level on the trailer, got it leveled and havent had any problems loading a boat since.. other than that.... make sure you put some gears in the truck to turn the tires if you go with 35s or higher. It will be fine.

Would love to put the same lift on my 2011 Chevy 2500HD, but the last time I lifted a truck and put bigger tires on it, it killed the mileage.

Yup, Gas mileage sucks. I ended up buying me a Reg Cab 2wd Chevy just to pull the boat with to save on the gas.... so far it has been a whole lot better. 19mpg. pulling boat, 22 highway without boat. Other truck is 10mpg. pulling boat.
