    8" - 10" - 12" rims

Most of the smaller boat trailers run either 8" or 12" tires but most of the snowmobile / equipment trailers use the wider 10" tires.
Is there a benefit or reason for this selection?

    Weight capacity.

    Small boats aren't heavy.

The weight capacity and diameter, they want to keep the deck as low as possible with the highest weight capacity available. To get the same weight capacity as a 20.5x8.x10 LR"E" you would have to go to ST205/75/14 which has a 6" larger diameter.
