    5 pin connection

I bought a boat last week that has a 5 pin flat connector and I have a 4 pin on the truck. The trailer has surge brakes. I assume the extra pin is for the brakes. What is the extra pin for??

the extra pin [blue wire] hooks up to your reverse lights on your tow vehicle so you can back up the trailer without your brakes locking up.

barry if u look you can find a 4 wire flat adapter at the auto parts store that has 1 wire coming out of the side that is blue plug the 4 wire adapter to ur 4 wire plug and run the blue wire to ur back up lights so if u ever need a 4 wire flat u just unplug the adapter and u have a 4 wire flat again. and u will only need to run 1wire not 5 this is wht i did it works nice. the adapter was around 5 dollars

A little trick if you can't back up...
Turn on your lights and flip your 5 pin over 180 degrees and plug back in. The trailer will ground thru the ball and the brakes will release with power from your lights. Just dont forget to flip back before getting back on the road.

If it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it!
