need new tow rig but want better milage than my 03 silverado ss

Just wondering if anyone has had luck with some of the new stuff. I love my all wheel drive 6.0 ltr ss. With todays prices and my high milage I am going to have to buy something soon. My buddy has a 10 silverado 5.3 and he gets maybe 2 mpg better than i. I love the hp and tor of the 6.0 and if everything else only gets 2 mpg better than I quess I will look for power. You would think something could get 15 towing.

F150 ecoboost. You won't give up any power and mileage should go up.

Not sure what you are currently getting, but with my new EcoBoost I pulled the boat to the lake a couple of weeks ago and only got 12.5MPG. Now this is still new (hope to get better once broke in) and pulling up and down these Missouri hills. I also have the 3.73 rear gears and was in tow/haul mode. Don't get me wrong I love my new truck and the MPG was not the deciding factor when I bought it, so take it for what its worth.

I have a 2011 GMC 5.3l 6spd trans. I get 10 towing my 21ft Nitro tandum axle. If you want more then a diesal will do that. But at 10 to 11 grand more for the truck it is hard to justify. I used to have a 03 like you and got the same milage.

If you compare a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton diesel then yes $10,000 difference but that's comparing apples to grapes. 3/4 gas to 3/4 diesel is about $7,000. Still apples to oranges.

Now according to you, you are getting 10 MPG towing the same boat I am and I'm getting 17-18 MPG depending on how I drive. I am seeing that I will get 210 to 240 more miles out of 30 gallons of fuel. Yes diesel is higher than gas but the way I figure it , it will take you 20 more gallons to travel the same distance as me.

That's 50 gallons for you and 30 for me.
Let's say you get your gas for $2.75/gal. That's $137.50 for your 50 gal.I don't think that's gonna happen because it is $3.70+ here so you could probably add another $50 to that $137.50.
    At $4.00/gal my 30 gal cost's $120.
I don't know how much fuel you burn but at a tank a week it wouldn't take but a little over a year to pay for the diesel. Not to mention how much easier it is to tow. I don't even know my 4,000# boat is behind me.

Heck, as a matter of fact I get the same MPG as you pulling your boat when I'm pulling my 14,000# fifth wheel with my boat behind that.
