Mid or Full Size SUV for Towing

I currently have a 2002 Stratos 21XL Prostar with a 225 Rude and am pulling it with an '02 Chevy Tahoe. The boat sits on a dual axle trailer with drum brakes.

I am in the market for a new tow vehicle and am currently considering either another Tahoe or possibly the new Ford Explorer but I am slightly concerned that the small SUV will not hold its own during the longer hauls.

Any experience or feedback is greatly appreciated.

We pull my 21 Stratos dual axle all over the southeast with a Trailblazer. Including the Smoky Mts.

I've had the Explorers with the V8 engine and pulled a Triton TR21 with a Merc 225 efi on MFI tandem axle trailer all over the place with no problems. I have actually owned 4 Explorers over the years. The main reason I don't own one now is that Ford Motor Co. pizzed me off. They would not make good on a flaw in design of the tailgate cracking around the Ford emblem. I've seen at least a hundred Explorers with the same crack that mine had.

With all that being said, I bought a new Tahoe and absolutely love it. Pulls great, but is kind of thirsty.

You need to take a look at the 2011 Jeep GC. I don't think you'll be sorry if you do. I just got a Limited and it is great. It rides like a caddy then when you load it up the suspension adjusts and it's ready to work. 360 HP won't do you wrong either.
