(Was told to put this on here also)
Just read a thread about bearing buddies so I thought I would put this on here in case someone needs to know how to do this. I am going to assume you know how to repack bearings yourself and assemble them correctly. This is just about how to set the correct tension on the bearing if you don't have a proper inch pound torque wrench. Yes...INCH POUND not foot pounds.
1. Screw the nut up tight by hand and let it center the wheel hub.
2. With a 10" adjustable wrench or equivalent, tighten the nut down a little and spin the tire several times.
3. Now back off the nut again till it is loose. Again tighten by hand only while spinning the wheel several times to make sure it is set.
4. Now look at the nut and tighten it to the next alignment cut. It should be about 1/8" or less away from the hole in the end of the axle.
5. Put a new cotter pin thru and you have just completed the task.
Pretty easy huh. I have done it this way for 30 years and actually tested the tightness with a torque wrench and it was dead on.
