I can't adjust my brakes from the rear too. I have to remove the wheel and my drum has a port in the front of it to adjust the breaks. Check yours and see if you have a access port with a plug in it.

there should be a hole in the front side of the drum, it may be covered with a steel cap, adjust backwards from there...

Thanks all. I was able to get the plug out with needlenose pliers and then use a tiny pry bar I picked up at Sears hardware to turn the star wheel.

Not to be a smart arse, but is there any reason not to cut off the part of the vertical bar below the weld that covers the adjuster? It doesn't appear to support anything. Inquiring minds want to know.

I really don't think it would effect the integrity of the axle, it's just the way UFP builds them....I bitched about this when I worked at UFP... Call Nick Lenzi at UFP, he's the sales mgr ...800-854-1905 ext 128...but dont tell him I gave you his #...

I thought about cutting it off too, but it's 1/4" steel and I don't own anything that would cut it. The mini pry bar worked perfectly though.

A small whiz wheel is not that expensive and would make it less time consuming to adjust. Just wish I could cut off the blockage on my axle so I don't have to remove the wheels to adjust the brakes.

That rental sawzal would do a job in about five minutes.
