    Trailer Bunks

i bought a new G3 Eagle (aluminum boat) about 3 years ago. It has a Bear trailer under it. Recently, I had to replace the trailer bunks because they were totally rotten and had began to break down and decompose. Upon checking with Bear, I was told that they only used untreated 2x4's because a treated 2x4 would damage the aluminum on the boat. Apparantly the chemical in the wood treatment contains arsenic. I have replaced the bunks with a treated 2x4 covered with marine carpet. Should I be concerned about this treated wood?

Try Ultimate Bunk Boards, they are composite.

I wouldn't be concerned. I just replaced my bunks with treated. Seems like a stretch to me that the treated wood would harm anything.

Actually I believe it is the copper in the treated lumber that causes the corrosion. New pressure treated lumber has no arsenic any more. Sort of a galvanic/electrolysis thing. I heard they have to be in contact with each other for this to occur. I'm pretty sure a layer of carpet will defeat this and I would use P/T lumber myself. I'm thinking of using the slick bar things at the back of my bunks because that is the only place my carpet is wearing. I think Eastern Marine has them.
