    Lug nut torque recommendation?

I have a 1997 Astro trailer (5 lug pattern), dual-tandem, mfg by Marine Group LLC. What might be the recommended torque settings for the lug nuts? Something in the 60lb range? I am rotating my tires while re-packing the bearings, replacing seals, etc. and wanted to make sure when I reassemble. Thanks!

Wow. Really? That much? Maybe I should have specified that my wheels are aluminum. Would that bring the torque down? 90-95, esp for aluminum wheels, seems too high. ???

Thanks both... being a newbie I tend to question things, even though pretty much all advice I've received to date has been rock solid! I should have known better... :)

I Googled around a bit after posting my 'are you sure?' message, and found that 90lb is pretty much a defacto standard. Then---and here's the kicker to slap my face with---I noticed a sticker on the trailer itself, regarding 'it is owner's responsibility', etc. to keep lug nuts tight and set to 90lbs torque!

    Humbled,

    JF

Also, I didn't even notice your link, Gary, to the related discussion. Sorry, and thanks again!

I don't blame you a bit for wanting to make sure.

You're too kind. Actually, the lugs are the last thing that go on, of course, so given that I'm COMPLETELY 'REBUILDING' my circa 1997 tandem axle trailer from a previous owner who hadn't a fricking CLUE about trailer maintenance, that was the very last thing I wanted to do 'wrong'.

I've spent the the last week rebuilding/replacing: Actuator, master cylinder, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, bleeding the brake lines (drum brakes), bearings, races, seals, bearing buddies.

Yes, this trailer had bearing buddies, but the races on 2 of the 4 hubs were eaten away, and the bearings (inner and outer) on 2 of the 4 were likewise thrashed. The prev owner was just plain LUCKY that the bearings didn't burn up and he didn't have an accident or something.

Anyway, been doing a (blank)pile of work and now everything's just about perfect/rebuilt (still awaiting replacement of factory master cylinder and shock absorber from factory---was frozen up/thrashed just like pretty much all other braking components on that poor trailer)... so, as you said, 'can't blame me' for wanting to 'make sure' ---- especially for the last bit of proper maint before hitting the road again. :)

You've been busy that's for sure. At least you will know what you have when you get it all done. Good job.
