Did you have to create something so that you could carpet the inside of the wheel wells? Great looking job! Paint is awesome and the "Astro"pops! I am working on the same trailer now.
okay, okay... last cast, after this one.

Yea it took some time but it was worth it. Crazyelvis made my Astro decals for me. I used cuttingboard material behind fenders so it will never rot. The trailer was in bad shape ( went to Wilmington,NC &got boat & trailer) salt water took it's toll on it. 3 days sandblasting it & 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of black Imron & 3 coats of clear Imron w/ blue flake to match boat. I painted it all myself. I made all new bunkboard brackets, keel roller brackets & rear steps w/ side board brackets behind fenders & welded all of them on myself. Put new aluminum fenders on & polished them out. Polished out the rims also ( Special THANKS to Catfan for selling me a centercap for one rim). All new brake assemblies & brake lines. All new bunk carpeting.Painted on the pinstripes myself. All stainless steel bolts. It pretty much is a new trailer. All I need is new wheelbearings & tires & I'll be done w/ it.
Thanks for the support of it, Jeff
Who's trailer is next????
The correct name for the cutting board material is polyethelene plastic. Cost me about $20.00 a side. You can see it in one of the pictures.
Jeff
Still waiting on the next trailer to come forward. Any takers??
Jeff
First of all that's a nice looking job , second what did you do with the boat during this overhaul ?
I set the boat up on four big float truck tires. Took the boat off the trailer with a crane and a fork lift. When i figure out how to pull pictures off my computer i will show you.
Jeff
very sharp!...mine also needs a work over, unfortunately!!

You did a great job!!![]()
Your trailer restore looks great. I am going to restore my trailer in the spring. I also have to have new bunk supports welded to the trailer. I was thinking of using the stainless steel which was originally used on the ext. and inside of splashwell on the transom. I got the boat as a project. Has anyone ever used stainless steel for their bunk supports? This is a heavy gauge and what gauge i'm not sure. I read you sandblasted the trailer. Did you use sand or something like walnut shells???
I have never use imron or any type of metalflake before painting. Is that something a newbie could do or is it out of my skill level???
Thanks,
G.
I used something called black beauty to sand blast the trailer. It's crushed black sinders, worked great. Imron isn't bad to use just make sure you have a good mask. Then used clear Imron over the black and added the blue flakes. I had the rear steps behind the fenders made & welded them on. Bent up new side bunk board brackets & welded them on. Had "crazyelvis" make up new decals. I used all stainless steel hardwear.
Jeff
It looks nice. If i understand correclty, you sandblasted the trailer then used imron over the black paint finish and then applied the blue flake. After applying the imron over the black finish did you have to let it dry and then wet/dry sand the imron (scuff it up some) and then applied the blue flake and then a coat of imron over that? If you don't mind me asking but what approx. did it cost you for materials, sandblasting, imron, and flake?
Many thanks as i hope to be doing that in the spring but hope mine looks great like your when done.
Thanks, G.
No I put 3 coats of primer on & sanded, then painted 2 coats of black Imron paint on and just let it tack-up in between coats. Then I mixed the blue flake in to the clear Imron and sprayed 3 coats on letting it tack up in between coats. Then I painted the pin stripe on. I have less than $400.00 in the primer and paint.Thats in-cluding everything. Then i picked it up with a crane, and lifted it up to the top of the building to dry. [about 25 feet up next to the heaters]
