Idle rpm 94 Johnson 225 Venom

What should the idle rpms be for Johnson 1994 J225STLERK. Seems like it used to idle at 700 or so. Just came back from the shop. The mechanic replaced the spark advance and set the idle and told me all was good. But I just fired it up in the driveway and its idling at 1400. Seems high. Should I try to adjust it or wait til I run it at the lake this weekend. I let it run for a good while but the rpms didn't drop. I thought these motors idled high until they warmed up and then dropped down automatically.

Once you put it in the water lake it will be under more pressure, and will idle a bit lower, I kinda thought rule of thumb for me is set it about 200 rpm,s in the driveway on muffs above where you want it to be when in the water it will drop once sumerged.

Sounds like he didnt readjust the timing.

Out of the water, using a hose, the engine idle on those motors will be high 1100-1400 rpm due to the lean running. In the water, with exhaust backpressure and in gear, the idle rpm should be 650-750 using an accurate tach.
