bent prop shaft on 2003 evinrude 250 direct injection

Just wondering if this is a repair i can tackle on my own... i have switched the impellor on this motor but how involved is the gear case.... I assume I drain the lower gearcase oil and pull the prop and the two bolts to open up the gear case... I was wondering if this shaft will than just pull out or is it a involved complicated process...

Thanks in advance.. oh ya if I do the repair is it recommended to switch the bearings out at the same time...

How did the propshaft get bent? If you wacked something while running it, I would be concerned about other damage...mainly gears. If the propshaft is bent, you are stressing the gears. Is this an insurance claim?

I just got done with a nightmare that started out with a bent propshaft and eventually ended up with a brand new lower unit, several trips the the dealers and 3 mos. later

My bent prop shaft resulted in a new rebuild. Get it looked at by someone good. If you recently hit something, make a claim. Get a new lower unit if you can(Insurance). It can get expensive. The shaft is $300 or more.

I went through the same thing that Procraftmike did. Get it checked out. If you bent the shaft make sure you replace the gears too. If not get the whole lower-unit.

There is also a new gear case tool to make sure the case did not get twisted when the damage occurred, I checked a Lightning case today with a bent prop shaft and the case was twisted and had to be replaced.

If the case is twisted and you put a new gear set in, the gears will fail in a short amount of time.

Call your incuarce company & get a new lower unit. Say no to a repair.
