While walking in the bush I came across 4 antlers at the base of a tree. I'd like to hang them in the house but they are not clean or shiny. In fact, they are quite dull and have some grey discoloration. Is there anything I can do to them to make them look good?

Maybe. Antler material is actually a type of bone. The reason they are dark and shiny on the live animal is because they rub them on small trees and tree limbs and this stains them. you can try some paste shoe polish on them and then buff them sometimes that will work, you can also try wood stain but don't let it sit very long or it will be hard to wipe off.
i have used polyurethane on antler knife handles. i have one that i made @ 20 years ago and it is still smooth and shiny. the polyurethane will yellow a little bit but it still looks good. i cleaned the antlers real good with mineral spirits before i coated the antlers. i put 3 coats on them. best of luck to you

i use wood stain gel to color antler lamps after finished with them, works great ( to color match where holes were filled because the wires are run internally)
