I have a 225ho and it runs great. I keep seeing post that say they blew a powerhead due to a bad injector. Is that a fuel injector ? Why would a bad fuel injector cause such a event. Is oil being injected with the fuel?

Restricted fuel flow through an injector can cause a lean condition, detonation and ultimately piston damage. A small amount of oil is mixed with the fuel before the fuel reaches the filter - to keep injectors clean. Inj #5 caused a meltdown on my 04 225 HO.
so what precautions do you take to keep a failure from happening or do you just hope for the best .
First thing I would add a water separator in addition to the filter on the motor. I would then add Startron to the fuel. Run XD-100 oil. Service the LU and run XPF-XR or Pro for LU fluid. Don't beat the living snot out of it everytime you are out there. Replace the plugs every 100 hours and don't idle for long periods of time without upgrading plugs and thermostats. I wouldn't be afraid to run one of them at all.![]()
i blew a 01 225 HO powerhead with a bad injector.....but runs 10 times better with the new powerhead
ok thanks for the tips championman
great motors strong...... is what i can say! loved my 2003 before she burned up a 2 piston. But still got me back and never cutt off running 45 mph. Loved that motor would haul the mail 81 83 mph all day. etec i have is great but not the speed demon it could be.
