    Hard codes

is there a different way to clear hard codes verses the soft codes in the ecm. I show a hard code "water in fuel" and can't seem to clear it. I've replaced the sending unit, and tried just disconnecting it, still getting the code. Do I just send the ecm to DFI. Any help would be great, thanks

    Re: Hard codes (GUIDO)

A hard code means "it's happening now" and a soft code is just a previous problem or an intermittent whose history remains in the ECU, in your case.

It is possible the ECU is giving a false code, but first you have to check the wiring from the sensor to the ECU making sure it is not rubbing or shorting anywhere.

    Re: Hard codes (GUIDO)

I had this same issue with my 98 ficht 150. I drained the tank, cleared fuel lines, replaced fuel/water separator, fuel filter/sensor and even ran it from a brand new aux tank. I ended up sending it to DFI to be rebuilt for $600, repairs and shipping were fast. According to DFI and seahorse (on another forum he was helping me) if you disconnect the sensor and it still throws the code then the issue is with the ECU. I chose not to ignore it for fear that I would overlook a legit code and had it rebuilt. its up to you
