I am tryng to set the timing on this motor.I have it set at about 5ATDC.The problem is the motor is idling to high around 900 ,1000,if i adjust the idle timing screw to lower the rpms the timing goes up to around 12degrees,i am sure i have something out of wack but what

Are you trying to set in backed in the water and in gear? also, look at the sync and link... the roller where it touches should be at about .005 from the pickup point....... also, make sure your throttle plates are closing all the way

yes the boat is in the water in gear,the throttle pickup cam is set close to .005,the timeing is correct ,but the idle is to high around 1000

See the arm on the right side (from behind) close the the flywheel there is a screw sticking out the end, turn it in and the idle will go down, the idle timing will be off but that's ok as long as the idle speed is correct.

Is this considered the idle timing screw?If it is i have turned it in to slow the motor but the timing goes up to around 12

When you adjust this screw the timing will change because you are moving the timer base, that is Ok as long as the idle speed is right.

I was able to get her down to 700rpm idle and she ran great.Thanks for the great advice guys.
