    2004 Johnson 150hp Temp probe???

I have a 2004 150hp Johnson Motor. Last season my motor got overheated while i got stuck on a sand bar. The hot alarm came on. Now everytime i put the temp probe in the alarm goes off. I am not sure what this part actually is but this is what it states on the side of it:

    AIRPAX
    Mexico
    67010620620062
    514388
    0408

Any help would be appreciated as i need to get a new one of these?

Re: 2004 Johnson 150hp Temp probe??? (threeriversmarine)

Hi, I'm having the same issue with my 2004 Johnson 175hp. Only difference is that number ends in 0320 instead of 0408. Just wanted to know if you got this fixed and were you able to get an actual name for the part and or part number? Thanks!

The new part number is 0585023 it is called a temperature switch. It monitors head temp and if it is the one on the port side it also activates quick start. You need to make sure that your cooling passages aren't blocked up from the sand and your water flow is good. Remove both thermostat housings, and pull the thermostats. Remove the tell tale fitting from the back of the motor and screw in a garden hose. Turn the water on and let it run for a few minutes without the motor running. Turn off the water and apply cooling muffs to the lower unit, apply water and start the motor with the thermostats and the tell tale out. Make sure you have good water flow out of the tops of both cylinder heads and out the tell tale's passage. If all good shut off the motor and the water and move the temp switch to the opposite head. Connect only the tan wires and restart the motor with water applied. If the alarm sounds disconnect one tan wire at a time. If the alarm follows the switch it is defective.
Head temps should also be checked with either a IR temp gun or thermosticks. You could very well have a bad thermostat too.

The 0408 and 0320 are just manufacturers lot numbers.
