When I'm running the boat on plane, is it possible to trim the motor out too high (as to be out of the water)? I don't have a water pressure gauge, just a trim gauge. The motor is a 115 Etec.
Thanks!

First, it doesn't have to be all the way out of the water to do damage. You have a water pick-up in your lower unit, when you trim up to high you get less water and your water pressure drops...but you wouldn't see that because you don't have a water pressure gauge. The rooster tail shouldn't be higher than the top of the cowl, if it is you are trimmed to high and wasting power. I recommend that you buy and install a water pressure gauge on your console, using the gauge, tach and the seat of your pants you will learn to listen to the engine which will tell you just where it wants to be.![]()
My boat will only trim up so far in gear running full speed but I have been in other boats where you can trim it out of the water. You should notice the boat bouncing when you get it trimmed to high. Back off some from that spot and you should be good.

As suggested I'll experiment more with the trim. Water pressure gauge is a good idea but will have to wait since I'm on financial lockdown after getting the boat!![]()
Thanks guys!![]()
A water pressure gauge is a lot cheaper than a new powerhead![]()

Gauges can be had for less than $30 , they really are a necessity on larger engines. If you had a 15hp outboard that's one thing but a powerhead rebuild is going to be $4k + in most cases![]()

Are they hard to install?
No......Drill a hole for the gauge, mount the gauge, run the tubbing for the gauge, connect it to the engine, wire up the gauge for lights (2 wires)
So easy a Cave man could do it.......![]()
