I have a 3 year old bass tracker. Just put in new trolling motor battery in February. Always keep it plugged in my garage. Went to the lake recently, and I had very little power for the trolling motor (ruined day of fishing). When I got home, i plugged in the charger but the red light did not come on. Doesn't seem to be taking a charge. A green light comes on, but not the red one. I checked the extension cord and it works.
Any thoughts? How do I figure out if it is battery problem or charger?
Pull the battery and take it to an Auto Zone or some such store and have them run a load test on the battery. If indicated bad you know what to do, if not then when you reinstall the battery make sure to check all of you connections for a tight fit.

Make sure your connections are clean too. Take a wire brush to every component at the battery. One more thing....if the trolling motor is left plugged in all the time check the connections between the plug on the trolling motor and the plug socket that it plugs into. These plugs will corrode if they are left plugged in. It creates the same resistance that you get when your battery cables get dirty, that in turn creates heat and low voltage. I had a simillar situation years ago and burned up a plug, socket, and part of the wiring harness at the back of the socket..........lesson learned leave the trolling motor unplugged when not in use. Also if it is fused or has circuit breakers check to make sure none of that is corroded as well.
