    marker ?

    a friend of mine came over tonight.we was talking about river markers and he was all messed up.i could not find the book for it but tried to tell him,but that didnt work.so please tell him how you run the river with green or red markers in the river.thanks

    On open water I remember 3 R's, red right returning. On a river the reds are on the right when you are going upstream:

    I ran aground on a sand bar once this year coming out of a channel. I stayed between the markers until the end and there was only one daymarker that had the color facing out and I chose the wrong side. I need to learn the shapes too so I can tell what they are from the backside I guess.

    Or another way to look at it - in the direction of current flow, buoys should be positioned like your front running light - green on the right, red on the left.

    red, right, return, = red on your right when returning to port. This applies in Coastal Waters I believe.
    On Toledo Bend Lake the main boat roads are marked with the red on the right heading North, which applies to what the other gentlemen posted, in this case upstream or North the red is on the right and running with the current, towards the dam the red is on the left. I think....

    Red markers are triangles, green daymarkers are square.
