Fred,i got a question for you.

Fred,i see a few guys that bash the VRO on some of the older OMC engines and say they didn't lube properly.I ran 2 GT150's and a Faststrike 150 for several years, and ran them HARD without any problems what so ever.I remember the manual for the Faststrike said to mix 50:1 when running wide open,or "hiperformance" driving. Do you know if the owners manual said the same on the 200 or 225 Venoms? This was in addition to oiling with the VRO.

Wow, you would oil yourself along with the VRO? I have a 150 Intruder and the VRO was unhooked when I got it. I mix 50:1 all the time. I can't imagine it would be any different with a 200?

That's what the owners manual said to do on my 1995 Faststrike. I never did it,but i always made sure the oil injection was working after each trip by checking the amount it used v/s the amount fuel i had used and i still do that with my yamahas. I didn't remember seeing that in my GT150 manuals, but i may have overlooked it.

Yep says that in all the manuals. I add a pint for every 12 gallons of gas and I trust my VRO system.

If your adding additional oil above and beyond the working vro then what oil mixing ratio do you suggest for a 94 or 95 175 intruder that has the vro removed and replaced with the fuel pump only without the oil pump side? I currently self mix 50:1 but read on one of the threads that 40:1 is recommended.Sorry I know we are suppose to post serial numbers but boat is in storage at another location and don't have it handy.

I think 50:1 will work fine, and 40:1 shure won't hurt either. I never added the extra, and ran that motor hard for 4 years then sold it to one of my buddies that don't take good care of anything, and it's still going strong. The VRO on mine averaged almost a perfect 50:1 ratio. Thanks for the info Fred.

I guess this spring I will experiment and start mixing at 40:1 and see how she likes it and performs to help protect the big motor. The motor is on a walleye boat and gets worked pretty hard and shares the same fuel tank with my 9.9 2 stroke kicker.Hopefully they will not smoke to much or start fouling plugs out from the extra oil or even start building carbon up.I run Penzoil XLF.

I have never had any problems with my vro. Bought my boat new in 91 and I have ran the hell out of her but keep her maintained properly and after 20 years she still runs like a top.

When I fished tournaments I also added 1 pint for every 12 gallons and trusted my VRO. I run a 1991 150 Intruder, I'm on my third VRO, one went out on gas side, one went out on oil side. I was lucky when the oil side went out, just as my boat laid over on plane the horn beeped once, I shut her down and turned the motor off, I thought about that for a minute and then was going to restart, the horn did not beep when I turned on the key. No oil, the horn beeped once and stopped working, I had to add oil to the gas and idle in. I now carry extra oil in the boat and a gas line. I can put the gas line so I can reach the bulb and pump it to idle in.

Should I also pre-mix my oil? I have an 99 Johnson 225 HO. I know my VRO is working, if I burn 1/2 tank of gas I use 1/2 of the oil in the reservoir.
How bout if you have a fuel/water seperator? Would there be any problem pre-mixing with one?

Re: Fred,i got a question for you. (javelin225H.O.)

No problem with a water separator what so ever. I've had one in my boat since 1989. If your are burning that much oil for 1/2 tank of fuel you're using alot of oil. I have a 36 gallon tank in my boat and with a 1.8 gallon oil tank I have to re-fill my oil tank about every 3-4 fills. I do add oil to my gas at the above ratio.
