NEW - Contour Mode, Range Line, DI Zoom and Navigation Mode Images

Here's some new example of the new feature that were released for 2011 with FREE Software Upgrade...

    Contour Mode - Off

Contour Mode - On (You can understand this boat ramp better and where the sunken boat is located from the end of it on the right side)

    Range Lines -OFF

Range Lines - On (Using Coverage Area you can adjust Range Lines to help judge distance to points of interest on the screen)

Side Imaging Navigation Mode changes the Boat Icon at the top to show how to navigate to get to GPS Navigation path you have selected to waypoint without having to watch GPS screen. Notice Boat Icon turns orange in this feature.

Here you need to make a hard left...

New Down Imaging Zoom feature lets you zoom in on details...

Re: NEW - Contour Mode, Range Line, DI Zoom ... (Doug Vahrenberg)

Nice! I was looking at schools of fish this weekend, and wondering if there were any larger ones there... The sonar just showed a big blob of red. DI showed up better, but I didn't even think of zooming - Doh!

I don't understand the "contour" mode, other than blurring the picture, what is the advantage? Thanks

Initially I didn't like it myself but the more I see it the more it grows on me...in the example Doug showed I think it helped add clarity to the structure. I don't really see anymore blurring one way or the other it just moves the water column out of the way.

    Re: (DIXIEDOG)

I will use contour mode now to scan structure on a second pass.

In the past I would identify structure, marker buoy it, and re-scan it to see which way it's laying (like a laydown to see which way the top is oriented) so I can throw another buoy before i fish it. Sometimes with contour mode showing the water column, it's difficult to tell which way structure is laying. Now I will turn the water column off to get a better picture.

    Thanks Doug!

It's not for everyone but an additional feature that allows the user to customize his unit for their maximum benefit. Some people do not want or need data from the water column as they are looking for structure only...Contour Mode allows you to do this and not use screen space to see the data.

I was not a big fan of it as most of the time I'm "Hunting Fish" with my Humminbird and the data in the water column was huge for me finding fish. But the more I use Contour Mode I am finding situations that are beneficial...like this boat ramp it's easy to see how everything is perfectly attached togther on both side and the 180° of coverage Humminbird Provides in 455kHz SI Frequency.

Best part is Humminbird is providing new features that will help more anglers and users get the most out of their investment...some you will use, soe you will not but there will be others that the features are a must have.

I just checked the website and it said the only update available for my unit(997) was 5.45. Does that mean 5.5 is only for 998s?

It came out in March...I think that was 5.4xx when it was released but for sure the latest update will giver you these features as with any Humminbird Software the latest software gives you the latest features from all previous updates.
