    Some SI Snapshots..

There was a guy on the other forum that wanted to see some side image snapshots since he was thinking about buying one. So, since I posted them over there might as well share them here.

    Bunch of big catfish...

I believe these were a group of crappie in this ditch but could have been small catfish.. I am not really sure..

    Nice structure somebody dropped...

    Crappie on structure

Another drop off full of fish. I believe there were catfish.

    Railroad bridge or box car?

Big school of fish... Not sure what they were...

Fish close to a bamboo bucket.. Also some shad balls in the picture.

    Scattered fish

    Striped Bass

    Big Stump

    Re: (tjj)

okay i am very new to this and don't even have SI unit...not yet at least...so let me see if can get how this works:

just for the sake of this being pretty simple lets use the picture that has the "fish next to the bamboo". now those fish are off the left side of the boat and about 30ft away? the unit says "40 left" so i am thinking from the boat to the end of the picture would be 40 ft. judging by where the fish are they are probably from 25-35 feet away? also judging by the shadow they would be close to the bottom?

let me know if i'm close.

    Re: (gcopple)

I believe you are right on the money gcopple... To know the exact distance humminbird just updated the unit to have range lines on the Side Image screen so you know the distance from the boat. Also, I could move my cursor over on top of the fish and hit mark and it would mark that exact spot on my GPS and compensate for my speed and distance from the boat. It is really neat stuff...

    Re: (gcopple)

I tell ya.. I never use my DI since I have SI. I like SI much better but I am sure that if I just had 2D sonar and DI. I would use DI all the time. DI has some real good advantages over 2D sonar.

Most of the time to get the depth of the fish I look at my 2 D sonar or DI after I scan an area. I wish now that I had the 1198 so that I could put my 2D, DI, and SI all on one screen and get all the information at once.

My unit is a 898 SI. I love that thing. I do wish I had a bigger screen but the bigger screen cost bigger $$$$$

Are you sure you can't put 2d, di,and side image on one screen on the 898? Cause I have a 798 and I can have all three up at once.

    Re: (ttrap)

Oh.. You most certainly can put them all on one screen with the 898, 998, and 1198... But the SI gets so small it is hard to see small fish like crappie on the screen. The bigger screen really shine when you split the screen up for all the extra info. Basically what I do it just switch back and forth from screen to screen. I push alot of buttons on my 898 while on the water. The readouts on the left side of the screen take of alot of room also. I hope the future will hope an update to move them to the bottom or make them much smaller.

    Re: Some SI Snapshots.. (DoubleGobble00)

Very, very good picts. ---my 798 will not show stuff this well but am just a beginner on the si mode.
I know the bigger viewing screen (computer or bigger h/b unit-1198 will show more detail than what you actualy see on a 798-898 unit.
How much differance are the picts. here verses what was actually on your 898???

    Re: Some SI Snapshots.. (jdb21867)

The pictures really look the same to me on the 898 and on the computer. They might be a little bigger on the computer but not a whole lot. They are easier to see on the computer since I am in doors and not in direct sunlight. If I compared the computer snapshot to the 898 in my garage there would not be much difference.. just a slightly larger image on the computer and the ability to zoom in some. Hope that helps..

I also have an 898 Si unit. I just got it over the summer and am still learning how to use it. I have been playing around with the settings and reading about it as much as I can. What are your basic settings set at in these pics to get an idea of where I am at now. Awesome shots

I had to dig back to some older post but here are my settings with my 898. I upgraded to a 1198 now and use different settings.

    898c SI
Side View Frequency - 800 khz
Transducer Selection - Hi Def SI
    DI Beam Width - Wide
    SI Sensitivity - 10-12
SI Enhance - Sensitivity 10-12, Contrast 10, Sharpness Low
Range - Usually 40 - 60 feet since i mainly fish less than 20 foot of water and I like more detail
Chart Speed - Set same as MPH or little more (THIS IS CRITICAL FOR IMAGE QUALITY)
SI Color - Amber 1 or Blue usually
