Hard Bottom/Soft Bottom Red/Green Color Pallette..

I've been playing around some with that Red/Green SI Color palette.

I have to tell a story first. During a seminar I did earlier this year with Eddie Kendric with Humminbird I called him out on this Red/Green color palette. I specifically asked him "What possessed Humminbird to come out with this god awful looking color palette. His response was this color palette is used to decipher hard bottom from soft bottom and is unique to Humminbird. I honestly had no idea and it makes a lot of sense to have especially if your have mussel beds or gravel beds on your home lake. I know this feature would be great for the Walleye guys.

First the Blue Color Palette then the Red/Green with red showing hard bottom returns. See the mussel bed in this 1st image?

That's the reason also helps to find hard bottom on natural lakes! Can be a huge factor in catching them or not. Look how sweet that Shell Bed Shows up. That's one of the reasons BASS Elite Series Pro Clark Reehm told me he's switching and buying Humminbird because he can't see that kind of bottom hardness changes and locating shell beds on a competitors unit.

great shots mike, im like you, i thought the red/green was god awful. can't wait to get out and try it now because with this cold weather coming, they'll be keying on hard surfaces for heat.

It's a great feature for locating Shell Beds, Isolated Rocks or Rock Piles. The TVA Lakes and Great Lake Anglers love this feature to help find the sweet spots offshore.

locating shell beds on a competitors unit.

Just look how thoughtful Doug is by not mentioning the name of the competitor.

This will help me a lot. Thanks

HOLD UP!!!!! HAHA I just installed a 997 SI on my boat about a month ago but I do not have the RED/GREEN deal....I installed the update about a week ago but due to trolling motor troubles Im out of service until I get a new one so I havent played with it since the update. Is that part of the update and is the red the harder bottom?

Do you have Down imaging?? If so you have the green/red pallete. YOu have to change the color. Go to the SI screen then hit menu then scroll down to color pallete then adjust to red/green

I tried the red/green today for the first time. On my unit I had to turn the sensitivity down to six or seven otherwise everything was red but WOW, I found several new bars. First, I went to a couple of bars I already knew about to see just how it works but then it was really easy to know which were bars. Wweeeelllll, or at least which were really hard bottom areas since we have very few gravel bars. I'll have to drag a carolina rig across them to be sure.

I learn a lot on here but this may be one of the best tips yet.
