Replacing two wood post with new wood post and will need to trim them down. The wood does not look pressure treated that I can tell and will be painted. After cutting to fit how should I seal the cut ends?

You can do a couple of things. One is Minwax wood hardener. The other is Cuprinol. Lowes carries both the last time I looked. Either can be pained on the cut ends and allowed to dry before installation. I've successfully treated posts by pouring the wood hardener into an appropriate sized container and soaking the end of the board for 30 minutes or so. The wood soaks the hardener up through capillary action to protect the cut end.
The other thing that will help is to make sure that you use post support to prevent water from soaking into the post.
