need help please Evinrude ficht 150

I have a evinrude ficht 150. Model e150fpleea and I had my cousin over to help me get my speedometer working and he found a peice of wood stuck in the little hole in front of motor on the lower unit and we couldn't get it out. So he got a drill bit the same size of hole and went in too deep now there is lower unit oil leaking out. I need to know what needs done and how bad is this, very worried, just bought the boat a week ago. Thanks Aaron

I had the exact same thing happen to my lower unit...if you drill hard enough you will hit oil My mechanic drained all the lower unit fluid that way you can get rid of any metal fragments. Start with an air gun blowing out the hole then with degreaser on a rag use a small nail to insert it into the hole several times. Keep doing this, once you can isert a dry rag and pull it back out with no oil you are clean. Now you are ready to get as much JB weld in the hole as you can buy using your finger to dab it in the hole and then use the nail to push it in. Once you feel like the hole has enough JB weld in it put a piece of tape over the hole to prevent any from running out. After the JB weld has dried for a couple of days you are now ready for a pressue test...he had a pump that would force air into the lower unit. If there is a leak the gauge on the pump will loose pressure. If everything is OK fill up with lower unit fluid and run. Then change lower unit fluid again just to make sure all the metal fragments are gone. Dont be suprised too see metal shavings on the drain plug. The screw has a magnet that attracts metal shavings that are normal from gear wear. If you see chuncks in the shavings then you need to be worried.

My 1999 model Lower unit speedometer was plugged with JB weld somewhere around 2002. I have had no issues with water in the lower unit or leaks. My speeodomoter now reads a constant zero mph

You can fix this yourself but you will need a pressure pump for the lower unit. $5 JB weld or a couple grand for a new gear case...just make sure you clean all oil before you JB weld

Why use JB Weld....... Kind of like putting a band-aid on a broken leg..... Drain gear oil as previously suggested. Take it to a "good" TIG welder and have them weld the hole in the case. Refill and you're good to go. If welded right you won't have to worry about any leaks either.....

how ya gonna get to it,?and its $5 for jb,vs several hundred to tear it down to get to the inside, I am guilty of this screw up too,and I didnt even take it off ,put the jb to it and check fluid several times after and it never leaked.Put several hundred hours on it like that and its still going last time I heard.
