2005 Evinrude 150 HO fuel pum problem

This was purchased End of June, picked up 1st w/o July. Ran great untl last week. Died on the water. Like it ran out of gas. Found out the BRP had some problems with fuel pumps breaking down due to too much alcohol (Ethanol) in the fuel. Was expanding the port, because they were made of plastic. Supposed to have been solve as of March 05. Mortors prior have old fuel pumps (high pressure back and low pressure front). New pumps in after.
I had the high pressure replaced, no stock on low pressure. Seems ok right now, still worried about dying on the water again.
    Anyone heard anything about this?

    Welcome to the BBC.

Sorry you had problems with your motor but glad your dealer and BRP got it fixed.

I have not heard of any fuel pump problems with the carb motors but I deal with more DI motors than carb motors.

    Hi Rusty

150 HO is a Di. Out of the manual "Loop Charged V-6 60 deg. Direct Injection". It took a while for him to find out about this problem. Hopefully it's resolved though. Other than that it runs beautiful.

I guess I should have read the title of your post a little better.

Did the dealer check for fuel restrictions in the boats fuel system?

Re: 2005 Evinrude 150 HO fuel pum problem (RUSTY63)

Ya , I don't know the exact details but he said that when he checked the pressurre on the high pressure pump it was low and so was the low pressure. When we checked the bulb it was soft. So long story short, he was able to replace the high pressure with one from a motor he had there to get me going for the weekend, but the low pressure was unavailable. He said to keep an eye on because he was still getting reading from the high pressure that he didn't like. But couldn't establish whether it was bad or not get getting enough from the low pressure pump because the low presure pump could still be defective/damage.

Having said all that it ran fine for the liitle bit of driving that I did that weekend and haven't been out since. And due to the fact that it took about 1 1/2 hours to develop the problem it may not return for a while yet?

He also said that he would run it for about 45 min (idle). then it would die. Pump up the bulb till hard and it would run for another 45 min then die again. This was all before talking to BRP. Said if I ran into a problem on the water this was a solution to get the motor running again to get back to the ramp, until we determine if the problem is fixed or not. As I said the manufcture date of the pumps are the key and we don't know if the new one is older or newer and the low pressure has not been replace as of yet.

I hope that all makes sense.
