    alarm question

I have a 93 200 vindicator. when running on plane sometimes I hear a slight ringing sound( constant). It is not loud like when I first turn the key on. should I be concerned?

I tried wiggling the key while this is happening and I can sometimes get it to stop.

The motor seems to be running fine.

    The model is E200stle

How many alarms are on this motor? I ask because I have good WP and oil is good. I have ran the motor a couple more times since this has started and found that if I hit the trim button the ringing will stop.

I am thinking it may be an electrical issue but would like to hear from the experts. Thnaks

Four alarms, fuel restriction which comes on over 4,500 RPM and is solid, Low oil, no oil and over temp.

Your '93 has the 4 different alarms, but it wasn't until 1996 that the 4 light System Check warning system was introduced.

Your "ringing" sound may be from a faulty oil level sensor assembly in the oil tank. Next time you hear that sound with the motor off and key ON, disconnect the wires coming from the oil tank at the motor and see if the sound disappears.

Since you mentioned the beep when turning the key ON, the electronics inside the warning horn could be faulty. Disconnect the tan wire at the horn with the key ON and see if the sound remains. Do the oil tank test first.

I just tested the alarm horn by grounding out the wire to temp sensor. It works and sounds just like the beep I hear when key is switched on. The noise I have been hearing is not as loud. Also, it starts at 1000 rpm but the noise level increased slightly with more rpm. Still never as loud as the alarm horn.

I will check the oil alarm though, thanks.

The alarm horn is a separate item and if you want to test it, simply unhook the tan connector from the horn. Depending on the boat manufacturer they may have used an OMC horn or not.
