i do not have the metal lip on the live well. i stick mine thru the holes in the divider. like your way better, but cannot be done on my boat.

Mine started rusting from keeping them in the well all the time.
I just hang mine on the lid latch. They dont come off unless I take them off, which is relatively easy.

You have to make sure to buy the stainless clips.

Got the X-Tools strings but the mouth clamps did not hold fish for me...went to Wally, bought cheap metal stringer with the 10 or so shiny metal clips... took off and added to X-Tools...also clamp the contact area of the metal clips a tad on the "fixed-not movable" side with needlenose... never a problem since...except for a limit a couple times...
