I made mine out of a pool pole for cleaning. I made a point for it and screwed it to the pool pole. The pool pole is telescopic and goes down for enough to fit in my rod locker.

I actually used one of those extendable boat hooks, cut the plastic handle off, and put a duckbill pusher on that end. Figure $25 for the pole, $15 for the bill. Works pretty good, though can be kind of hard to unscrew when your done. Plus you can use the hook to retrieve lures out of tree branches, or so I've heard![]()

I second the telescoping pool cleaning pole. You can get them a Lowes and then just make a foot out of PVC so the end doesn't dig into the bottome. I used this for poling down in Florida Bay when I used to live and flats fish down there. Just make the PVC go up into the end of the pole about 3 inches then bolt it in with some stainless hardware. The glue just doesn't hold on those silty and muddy bottoms.
if you do use pvc or a telescoping pool pole can you just cap the bottom end? or do you need something to dig in to the bottom of lake?
I made the end of my pole and it is to a point. You can just cap it off, The bottem of the lake is soft (at my lakes). If this is the case with your lakes caping it off will work fine.

I bought a telescopice push pole from Academy. With it and the duck bill it was less than $75.

Flipped Out, I wouldn't suggest the Pool Pole for a push pole...Reason, because it takes in water and muck when underwater and when you lift it out of the water it pours all over the boat or splashes back in the lake (spooking fish).
If You can afford it I would pony up for the real deal..

I know you was trying to make one but Bass Pro shops has a nice one for about $30 Its hard to beat.

Do you think that can move a Bass Boat around?

I sealed up all the holes to avoid it doing this. Used some JB weld, works great.![]()

I went to a local welding shop and had a pole made out of aluminum in two peices to fit in my drivers side rod compartment.Cost me $25.Its stiff enough to move the boat Id say that pole is 2inches and heavy walled.
I have a 10 ft painting pole that i use to retrieve lures, works well as a push pole.

you guys must have some hard bottoms where you fish....
if I had a point for the end of my push poles, I would never find them again....![]()
I have two of them...one has a small (12 feet) straight sapling I cut down with a duck bill on the end...the other has a 14 foot long, 1" dowel rod for the pole with a duck bill....
got a duck bill from gander 10.00
and a 10 section of closet rod from home depot 10.00
being able to free my boat from the grasp of mud and pads without getting in--- priceless![]()
Several guys in our club have them............We went to our local college and got their old pole vault poles. Cut them to whatever length that you want and they work like a charm, aren't heavy at all and will not hardly break. Best part of all is that they were free.....................Roger
