Horny Toad/Frog tip

The problem with most frogs, especially the Zoom Horny Toad is that they roll. This can be fixed by using a weighted hook (hook with a lead weight in the middle) and then turning the frog upside down so the split side is facing up. This allows the hook to slide out, and no need to "tex-pose" it, thus increasing hookset ratio. I wish i had a pic to show, but you should get the idea. This works very well.

Try putting a small plastic bead clear, red type that are used on carolina rigs in front of the frog.Thread your line through it first before the hook. These beads come in the package of Stanley Ribbits and Reactions Ribbits for this problem. Also, try holding your rod at 12 oclock when you reel them.I fish these 75% of the time down here in La. and have had great results.Mustad wide gap 5/0 hooks rigged Texas style even with some tungsten sticky weight added to the bottom of the hook.Keep as much line out of the water as possible.

Got a picture? Man I like the Horny Toads but can't stand the line twist caused by them!! I think I know what your saying but a pic would be great if not to much trouble!!

I really haven't had that problem either but have others gave me the info. My number 1 trick that I said is keeping your rod straight up 12 oclock even lifting it a little over my head and keeping the line out of the water as much as possible not giving it a chance to sink. I use 50lb.braid also as I fish lots of heavy cover, grass beds.Your retrieve speed has to be just right. If it sinks the frog will roll when reeled to fast.I don't know how to post pictures otherwise I would.Keeping the rod up also gives to fish time to take it when you drop down to set the hook.A larger hook does the trick to keep the rudder effect in the water.Good Fishin!

Another good trick to keep the frog from sliding down the hook.....use a small 1/32oz screw in gambler weight.....<>rob<>..
