My version of solo launching that I have done many times

This is how I have been doing it for many years. I just leave the boat hooked up to the winch strap as I back it in the water. I back up just enough that the boat floats and I can easily push it off the trailer. I step up into the bed of the truck using my tire and pulling myself up with the bed rails of my GMC truck. I step down out of the truck bed onto the trailer tongue and balance myself by holding on to the front of the boat. I lean down and unlatch the winch strap and pull the strap out some giving it some slack. I reach up under the boat and easily undo the winch strap from the boat because of the slack. I get into the boat and quickly troll over to the dock. I tie up the boat and quickly go back to the truck and park it. I am very fast at doing this. The only issue is that you have to balance on the trailer tongue while you unhook the strap. I have thought about making some type of plate that would mount to the side of the trailer tongue to give more of a standing area so I don't have to balance myself as much. Any ideas on what type of plate to make? Anyway this works well for me, but I am not sure I will be able to do the same thing when I get older. The balancing can sometimes be a little tricky. That is why a plate would help so much.

Look in BPS catalog. They sell some items that may suit your needs for a platform. I believe I saw a walk platform in there catalog.

    Tnbassin,

We launch the same way, I have seen a set of steps that attaches to the trailer to assist in the climb. If I run across it again I will post a link.

I often launch the same way myself.

I have a step rail on my truck so even on a shallow ramp I can to what I need to do without getting my feet wet.

Some of the guys I know just back their boat in and let it float. Then they park their truck. When they get back they ask somebody to give them a ride over to their boat.

On one of the better quality ramps I launch on regularly I just wait until an outside lane is available and I back in a couple uinches away fromt he dock on the side. Makes for a very easy launch.

I agree abot the step or platform idea. One of these is very tempting. I just don't know what it will do to the load rating and trailering. I may try one jsut to find out.

kbkindle here ranger makes a side step on side made of fiber glass for about $350.00 i believe you could go to a welding shop and have one made of metal diamond plate with a rubber non slip top for about about half that price if you want a pic and measuments let me know kbkindle@sugardog.com

it bolts to trailor right side big enough to bend down and attach strap you can have both feet on land or and step right into boat or on the ramp. bought a boat buddy # 2 for loading boat. work great for a old fart of 70 kb
