    Blue water Question

Can you tell me how and where you are mounting your led black light strips? Are you using the 3m tape and where are they best mounted, above/ below rubrail ect. Thank you.

    he said black lights...

anyway...I plan to put them just above the rub rail on my boat. There is a vertical section just above it that is just high enough for a strip to fit. If I go below the rail they'll point down too far (Skeeter ZX170). 3M tape is plenty strong enough just clean the surface first with rubbing alcohol...

    Re: Blue water Question (ClaySlayer)

below the rail is the worst possible place because it would interfere with the cover being sinched and whatever you might accidentally hit. On the blue water boat they are just above the rail. We have a weather stripping designed to assist in the hiding of the lights as well. it is a black vinyl strip the exact size of the light. It is not ont he website, but if you call the 800 number, Lisa can help you with it. Thanks!

    Re: Blue water Question (Hook'em-AND-Cook'em)

I just mounted a set of the high intensity in the rub rail. I cut the rub rail out just shorter than the strip.... cut the rub rail peice I took out in half length wise... used 100% marine silicon to adhere the lights to the 1/2'd rub rail. I cut the rub rail out shorter than the lights so I could cut the back half out for about 1/2 inch of each side so that the ends of the light stip tucked in behind. The lights in the 1/2'd rub rail fit right back in and are just below the edge of the hard rail so they don't get crushed. I used a few dabs of silicone behind the rub rail the lights are on just to insure they stayed.... but it was a very tight fit to begin with.

I'll try to take a picture and get it posted.... they look very good. This was on my Triton TR186.

If you shave the carpet back it will stick very well as long as it is warmed up a bit.

Guys, I have seen some guys that have put them just off the carpet on the inside of their boats. Can anyone tell me how they hide the wires on the deck?

Wires go into hull. Hooked up to a switch at the console. I should have cut the shrink wrap and made the wires do a 90 ~ It would look better IMO.

A couple of ways to go about it. Either 1: use ~18ga alarm wire so it'll fit through the same hole (that way you minimize the size hole you have to drill) or 2: don't put the light any further than you can reach inside the hull to solder or crimp your connections. For instance if I went that route on my boat I could take the bow switch panel off and from there the typical lead on these lights would allow me to put them ~18in out from either side of the panel and still have enough slack to solder or use butt connectors. Just remember to put the shrink tubing on before you make your connections! Finally, a wire coat hanger can be your best friend too on pulling power wires through the hull.

Hey Mike, any chance you could post a pic of this black vinyl strip?
