1999 200hp Evinrude ficht

Hey got a few questions about this engine:

I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2000 Javelin Renegade 20 with this engine. Obviously after doing research on the engine, I have heard many bad reviews and many people have had problems. I've heard a few things that I'm skeptical about,
1) I've heard that the problems with the 98'-02' fichts were only with the 150 and 175 hp models, and
2) If the engine has made it this long, everything should be fine as long as it is serviced regularly, properly, and the evinrude oil and carbon guard additive is used.

So, can I believe either or both of those two points? When I test ride in it this weekend, and if we crank it up to WOT multiple times and everything is running great and properly, is the engine good to go? (again, with proper maintenance)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a ton in advance, this board has already helped me more than I could ever imagine.

I apologize I didn't find that post in my searches. Thankyou for directing me, it answered most of my questions. But again a question I still have, is if I run it up to WOT and it's running perfectly, does that mean the engine is good? I'm sure I should still get a computer readout...

It means it is good for the moment,,, but if it were to let go there is no resale value at all. So don't expect a return on your investment.

I have just over 280 hrs on mine now. Had 260 on the print out when I bought the boat it. Runs great. I chased the Pros on the Alabama River for 20+ miles at full throttle (5800 rpm) and it never missed a beat but I spend most of my time cruising at 4000 rpm around 40 mph. I can run a lot longer on a tank of fuel this way.
